Hohhot prepares for Chinese 'Academy Awards'

A press conference convened to introduce the preliminary work for the 26th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival in Beijing on Aug 16.

The film festival will be held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Sept 13 to 16.

During the conference, organizers disclosed the nominees, including the most discussed Chinese films July and Ansheng, I Am Not Madame Bovary, Operation Mekong, and Mr Six.

The festival contains an opening ceremony, an evening gala, a nominations ceremony, a red carpet event, and an awards ceremony.

The event will also act as a platform for releasing outstanding movies from all over the world and some films made by the members of Chinese ethnic groups.

In addition, the organizers will hold several forums concerning the film industry, special effects, and film reviews.

The committee of the 31st Golden Rooster Awards has received a total of 264 films in a variety of genres including documentary, animation, sci-fi, musical, and romance.

One of the noteworthy documentaries is titled Inner Mongolia Ethnic Films Over 70 Years, which reviews 76 works concerning ethnic groups in the region, and highlights the contributions made by those who are involved in the film industry..

As the Chinese version of the Academy Awards, the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival is being sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Film Association.

The festival aims to honor excellent films and individuals for their devotion and creativity in the film sector, and for promoting China’s film industry.

The Golden Rooster awards are also called “expert awards” for the film nominees are selected by reputed artists and professional film reviewers, while the Hundred Flower awards are chosen via public votes.

Being the host city, Hohhot has the opportunity to present its hospitality and unique culture to filmmakers from China and aboard. It’s also a great opportunity for Hohhot as well as the whole region to boost their local art industries.
