Historical drama impresses Hohhot

Descendants in Daqing Mountain was staged in Hohhot on Sept 2, showcasing the heroic deeds and solidarity among people at the stronghold in Wuchuan county during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

The drama is adapted from real people and incidents occurring during the war in the stronghold area of Daqing Mountain. The drama tells a story of local people sewing military uniforms and looking after wounded soldiers under the arduous circumstance  and in extreme famine and poverty. 

The Daqing Mountain Stronghold, located in Deshenggou town of Wuchuan couty, has a fiefdom stretching 496 square kilometers, and is now recognized as one of China’s oldest revolutionary areas.

The stage show was created by screenwriter Liu Zhixiong and was performed by Ulanmuqi, an Inner Mongolia-born troupe. The drama has received a number of awards at regional folk art festivals and opera performances over the past few weeks.

The drama has makes use of traditional er ren tai folk opera, which is usually performed by a man and a woman. Er ren literally means ‘two people’, and tai means ‘stage’. The folk opera has become popular in the mid and western regions of Inner Mongolia, northern Shanxi province and Hebei province.
