Wuchuan county is a major producer of naked oats, and its naked oats flour enjoys a high reputation in domestic and international markets.

Naked oats have more protein than other cereal crops. They also have rich nutrients, including amino acids, calcium and riboflavin, which are good for preventing atherosclerosis and heart disease.

Wuchuan county is in a high-altitude area, which offers an abundance of sunshine. The soil is highly porous, helping the land to retain nutrients and water. These conditions make the county a suitable area for growing potatoes.

Known as “the hometown of the potato”, the county is one of China's major potato producers.

In 2004, Wuchuan planted 4.4 hectares of potatoes, with total production reaching 800,000 metric tons, with only 9,000 tons being recognized as pollution-free agricultural products by the national agriculture body.

In 2005, the county rolled out comprehensive pollution-free production, making all its potatoes certified as green products.

Wuchuan potato was granted Agro-product Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2007, becoming the first product in Hohhot to gain national recognition.

Containing rich amylum, protein and low fat, Wuchuan potatoes are popular in domestic and global markets.
