Shimen Scenic Spot is located in the Kundulun reservoir, Baotou, with a construction area of 1,035 hectare, and a forest coverage rate of 64.7 percent. It is a national 3A-level scenic spot integrating ecological balance, recreation, conferences and science promotion.
The site covers many places of interest, including Cuiping Mountain, Shanbei folk village, Mongolian yurts and the Great Wall constructed during the Warring States period(475-221BC), the oldest Great Wall in China. The long history, grand flood prevention project and advanced recreational facilities let tourists experience ancient culture and the modern civilization.
The scenic area has paid more attention on environment improvement and tourism development in recent years. They planted more than 100,000 shrubs, attracting more than 50 kinds of birds. They also brought in amusement facilities, such as yachts and karting. Some accommodation services, including Shanbei folk village, Mongolian yurts and Yunxi villa provide more relaxation for tourists.
Some heroic and romantic historical stories, such as “Meng Tian builds the Great Wall”, (Meng Tian, a military commander in the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC),mobilized 300,000 labors and built a Great Wall) and “Zhaojun Chusai” (Wang Zhaojun, a famous ancient Chinese beauty who volunteered to marry a ruler of a Hun tribe in exchange for friendly relations with the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220)), combine history with beautiful scenery, making the scenic spot more attractive.
