Driving along the Baotou-Shiguai highway, people can see the ancient Great Wall ofl China, which was constructed during the Warring States period (475-221 BC) by King Wuling of the Zhao State.

With a history of more than 2,000 years, the Great Wall spans 500 kilometers. It starts from Xuanhua county in Hebei province in the east, runs cross the south foot of Yinshan Mountain and Baotou city, then ends in the Urad Front Banner in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The Great Wall was constructed to follow the mountain, five meters wide, and five meters high, with a 10-meter-wide watchtower every kilometer. In some important passes rectangle barriers were erected, each covering 800 to 1,000 square meters, to better defend against attackers.

Shiguai district has invested over two million yuan ($315,400) to develop and preserve the great wall, which was listed in the fifth group of national cultural relic preservation sites, and was honored as a "Patriotic Education Base" in Baotou.
