Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology
Located in Baotou, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology evolved from Baotou Steel and Iron Industry Institute and Baotou Architectural Engineering College (established in 1956), which was subordinate to the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1958, Baotou Engineering College was created from the two schools. It was later renamed Baotou Steel and Iron Institute in 1960. In 1998, it was put under the management of Inner Mongolia autonomous region which enjoyed the joint backing of central and local government. In 2000, it merged with Inner Mongolia Coal Industry College. And in 2003, it took on its current name –– Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology. In 1997, the university passed the Qualification Evaluation on Undergraduate Teaching conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 2008, it was ranked as “Excellent” in the Evaluation on Undergraduate Teaching Level conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 1986, it started to offer a joint master’s degree program. Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology became authorized to confer master’s degrees and doctorates in 1991 and in 2013 respectively.
Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, featuring the majors of metallurgy, mining, coal and rare earths, has developed into a multidisciplinary university that promotes the coordinated development of such areas as engineering, science, liberal arts, management, economics, law, arts and education, with a special emphasis on engineering, and integrates postgraduate education, undergraduate education, higher vocational education, continuing education and education of foreign students.
