Established in 1925, Baotou No 1 Senior High School is one of the oldest senior high schools in Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The school has won national and autonomous region-level honors including "National Modern Education Experimental School", "Inner Mongolia Model Senior High School", "Inner Mongolia Educational System Advanced Collective", and "Inner Mongolia Educational Research Experimental Base".

The school covers an area of 56,045 square meters with a construction area of 40,000 square meters. There are 54 high school classes, more than 3,000 students and more than 240 faculty members.

The school offers a high quality education to its students. The comprehensive ranking of the college entrance examination has ranked among the top three in the city. Since the resumption of the college entrance examination, more than 110 students have been accepted by Tsinghua University and Peking University.
