Located in Qingshan district of Baotou, North Heavy Industry No 3 High School covers an area of 90 mu (6 hectares) with a construction area of 45,000 square meters.

Founded in 1971, the middle school and high school were separated in 1988 and the school was restructured into a complete senior high school.

The school has gradually become a high school with an outstanding reputation in the autonomous region after more than 40 years of growth and development. It has won autonomous region-level honors including “Advanced Collective of Education of Inner Mongolia”, “High School for Advanced Education Management of Inner Mongolia”, "Outstanding School for Modern Education Technology", and "Technology Education Demonstration School of Inner Mongolia".
