Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone has obtained government subsidies of 5.05 million yuan ($790,000) for 31 national-level high-tech enterprises that were assessed in 2016 and 2017 in the district, according to a May 24 Baotou Daily report.

The move was aimed at supporting the development of tech-based enterprises in the district, and encouraging enterprises to apply for the certification of high-tech enterprises.

All the subsidiaries have been issued.

Among the 31 enterprises, 17 are in the field of rare earth new materials, three are in the equipment manufacturing sector, three are related to new energy and energy conservation, and eight are in the electronic information industry.

Approved by the State Council in 1992, the zone is the only high-tech district dedicated to the rare earth industry among China’s 53 national high-tech zones, and is the only national-level high-tech zone in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

In 2017 alone, 26 companies passed the review of national high-tech enterprises.

Up to now, the number of national-level high-tech enterprises in the district has reached 61, accounting for 54 percent of the city's total.
