By Lu Wei Updated: 2018-06-08

A folk art festival aimed at promoting the art of Baotou dough modeling is scheduled to open in Qingshan district of Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to a June 6 Baotou Evening News report.

The festival will include themed competitions, art exhibitions, artistic performances and art sharing sessions.

Baotou dough modeling is a traditional folk art originating in Shanxi province. It uses polished glutinous rice dough, painted with different colors, which is then shaped by hand as well as with some simple tools. The folk art has been listed as being part of Baotou's traditional cultural heritage since June 2012.
