Olympic Park plants flowers for summer tourists
Olympic Park in Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is becoming a popular summer tourist destination with the improvement of facilities and local environment, according to Baotou Evening News.
As part of efforts to make the area more attractive, more than 80,000 verbena, zinnia and cleome spinose plants have been transported from Shandong peninsula to Baotou to be used in the 2,700 square meters of flowerbeds and dry creek landscape built in the core area of the park.
The selection of summer flowers must beautify the area and the chosen plants must be able to tolerate drought conditions, said Wang Wenping.
After inspecting various plants, the three chosen types of flower stood out .
The seedlings were planted in the flowerbeds over the past few days and they will be available to view from mid-July. The plants are expected to flower in October.
