A project developed by Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group has been approved as a key research and development project by the Ministry of Science and Technology recently, according to a Sept 2 Baotou Daily report.

The project -- named the Personalized Pattern Intelligent Painting Robot and System Project -- aims to promote the development of intelligent automatic spraying technology for bespoke paint coatings for special vehicles, including camouflage coatings.

The robot flexible intelligent coating system developed by the project can provide functions such as flexible feeding and color changes, automatic body scanning and model construction, offline trajectory planning and online automatic adjustments.

It has fast adaptability and high flexibility for a variety of vehicles and a variety of personalized patterns and can realize intelligent spraying of coatings for all special vehicles.

The company said the spraying efficiency is double the levels of manual applications, and the spraying quality meets the specifications and standards of the special vehicle industry.

At present, China has realized intelligent monochrome spraying in the vehicle and aircraft industries.

Experts say the technical means are mature, but it is still in its infancy in the multi-color spraying of personalized patterns and its development foundation and capabilities are relatively weak.

As the only R&D and manufacturing base and medium and heavy-duty wheeled armored vehicle development and production base in China, Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group boasts a national key laboratory for intelligent manufacturing of special vehicles and their transmission systems.

Company officials said it has a rich technical accumulation of experience in the special vehicle spraying process and in digital simulation technology.

Founded in 1954, Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group was one of 156 key construction projects during the first Five-Year Plan period (1953-1957), and is the largest machinery manufacturer based in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The company has made significant progress over the years and its market value is currently worth more than 20 billion yuan ($2.79 billion).

The company has been working to boost scientific and technological innovation with 4.5 percent of its annual main business income being used for scientific research, to ensure the smooth development of scientific research projects.
