The concert version of a folk opera Shuangyi Shenma – or The Magic Horse with Two Wings -- is to be staged in the city of Baotou on Oct 13, 14 and 15 in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China, according to a report in the Baotou Daily.

The opera is based on stories happening at a beam and rail factory owned by the Baogang Group.

It depicts family ties, love and friendship, as well as the spirit of craftsmanship – while portraying determination, patience and the tireless pursuit of perfection.

The organizers said it also successfully integrates the element of the spirit of Mongolian horses, as well as promoting Baotou city’s prestige as the Steel City on Grassland and an industrial base.

The performance will involve, among others, baritone Zhang Haiqing and soprano You Hongfei.
