Baotou Airport moves into commercial cargo

Updated: 2019-12-06

Baotou Airport has gained approval to handle commercial cargo from the State Council, according to the bureau of commerce in Baotou.

Local officials said Baotou Airport International Terminal, in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is one of the few independent international terminals in China with good infrastructure.

The cargo operation will be officially opened after the green light is given by the General Administration of Customs.

The opening of the cargo operations at Baotou Airport opens up fast air routes for trading between Baotou and the world. Officials said this will effectively promote deeper cooperation between Baotou and overseas countries and regions in trade, finance, science and technology, education and tourism.

At the same time, it will also add new impetus to the industrial transformation and upgrading of Baotou.

Depending on the cargo facility's location and customs facilitation conditions, it will effectively promote the rapid development of modern services such as tourism, import and export trade, and e-commerce.

Since 2016, Baotou Airport has successively opened 12 international passenger routes linking Baotou with countries including Mongolia, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Korea.

The airport has operated 1,241 international flights and served 129,000 international passengers during that period.

Officials said its annual international passenger throughput has topped 33,000, laying a solid foundation for the airport’s opening-up.
