Barcodes, high-tech streamline Inner Mongolia group

Updated: 2019-12-23

The establishment of an Enterprise Resource Planning -- or ERP -- management system has greatly improved the basic management of Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group, company officials said.

Since 2010, the company has established a complete management system by stages -- with ERP as the focus, the officials said. The ERP is an information system for planning and controlling production to distribution and sales.

At the company workshop, a printout is made from order barcode according to the coding of the production order number.

It records the operation information by scanning the code, so as to realize the real-time monitoring of the whole process of production.

Company officials said that through the ERP system, the business data entry efficiency covering purchases, production and inventories had been increased by 60 times on average, by scanning the barcodes.

Managers can quickly learn about the production status, and carry out analysis through the system based on ERP. In addition, the data collection time is sharply reduced.

To date, the system has played an important role in 32 main production workshops, company officials said.

A total of 744 problems were identified and 739 solved.

The problem-solving time for a single issue has been shortened from five days in 2018 to three days, and efficiency is increased by 40 percent to the end of October, officials said.

By the end of this year, a video monitoring system will be put into use.

It takes only a few minutes from initial instructions given, to the final audit and confirmation through the system.
