Residents of Baotou city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region can from Jan 10 pay their bus fares with QR codes generated by mobile payment app Alipay, according to a report in the Baotou Evening News.

To use the service, passengers first need to obtain Baotou’s Alipay bus e-card.

The mobile payment system is expected to bring more convenience to Baotou residents, saving them the trouble of scrounging for change or searching for mislaid bus cards.

The system will be immediately made available on the vast majority of bus lines in the city, except for Buses No 3, 7, 9 and 12.
