A pair of test tube twins were born at Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital in Baotou in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Jan 10, marking the first test tube twins delivered in the city, according to report in the Baotou Evening News.

The baby boy and baby girl weighed 2,830 grams and 2,190 grams respectively.

They are the seventh and the eighth IVF babies born since the in vitro fertilization procedures began at the Reproductive Medicine Center of Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital. 

According to the doctors, indications are that the babies are in good health.

The Reproductive Medicine Center is currently the only facility in Baotou city approved to carry out assisted reproduction technology such as artificial sperm insemination IVF procedures using first-generation test tube and second-generation test tube baby technology.

The center has so far been involved in more than 800 artificial insemination and more than 110 test-tube baby cases. Doctors said the success rate for test-tube babies is 40-50 percent.

The first IVF test tube baby in Baotou city was born at the hospital on Aug 12, 2019.
