National highway project completed in Baotou

The Wulan Aobao-Wuzhu’er section of China National Highway 311 passed acceptance Jan 15, marking the completion of the whole highway project, according to baotounews.com.cn.

The highway starts at Wulan Aobao, which is at the junction of Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner, a banner under the administration of Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Siziwang Banner, and ends at Wuzhu’er which is at the junction of Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner and Urad Middle Banner.

It is 105 kilometers long and cost 400 million yuan ($58.32 million).

The eastern section is 40 km long and is constructed in accordance with the standard for secondary highways. The western section is 50 km long and constructed in accordance with the standard for tertiary highways.

The highway project is an important part of the arterial highway network of Inner Mongolia, and will be used for transporting supplies and military facilities for troops in frontier or border regions.

Also, as an important east-west passage in the northern area of Baotou, the highway is expected to improve road conditions from Baotou to the border area, and promote economic and social development along the route.
