Baotou's top 10 scientific highlights of 2019
Baotou -- the largest city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- has released its top 10 scientific and technological achievements for 2019, according to a March 12 report in the Baotou Daily report.
1. Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group successfully developed its G115 large diameter thick wall seamless steel pipe. It has laid the foundation for the engineering of ultra-supercritical coal-fired units with the highest operating parameters above 630 degrees celsius.
2. Beiben Trucks Group Co successfully developed the world's first new energy heavy-duty truck, with integrated charging and replacement technology. It has comprehensive safety control features and a multi-level safety warning mode, which has better safety, lower energy consumption and higher vehicle reliability.
3. The Baotou Rare Earth Research and Development Center at the Chinese Academy of Sciences worked with the Institute of Metal Research at the academy and Russia to successfully develop the first locally developed metal surface plasma cleaning equipment. The equipment operates at international advanced levels and can provide new green environmental protection technology for the surface treatment of steel materials in China.
4. Baogang Group adapted the world's most advanced carbonization method steel slag treatment technology from Columbia University in the United States. It then rolled out the only Chinese high-value-added steel slag pilot production demonstration line for high-purity calcium carbonate.
5. The first domestic 110-ton NTE120AT self-driving electric mining truck, independently developed by Baotou-based mining truck manufacturer Inner Mongolia North Hauler Joint Stock Co, was officially launched. That marked China becoming the third country after the United States and Japan to implement unmanned mining vehicle technology.
6. A domestically produced centrifugal field, high torque and high impact rare earth permanent magnet synchronous motor -- with independent intellectual property rights -- was successfully developed by Baotou Changan Permanent Magnet Motor R&D Co. It has laid the foundation for China to realize the localized production of core components in high-impact and high-precision applications.
7. Baotou Weifeng Rare Earth Electromagnetic Materials Co has successfully developed 0.05mm and 0.08mm oriented silicon steel ultra-thin strips. It has laid the foundation for the domestic application of high-frequency and thin-band silicon steel in the fields of military industry, high-speed rail, medical treatment and the power sector in China.
8. The Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earth and Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co jointly developed a polyglycolic acid (PGA) rare earth reinforced toughening modifier. The application range of environmentally friendly biodegradable materials of PGA has been greatly expanded. It has also laid the foundation for the development of high-end medical degradable polymer materials.
9. Baotou Dongbao Bio-tech Co and UCLA have made significant progress in the research of the anti-tumor mechanism for bone collagen peptides. The formulas developed to suppress specific tumors have been authorized by Chinese and US invention patents.
10. Inner Mongolia Mengyuan Sheep Breed Industry (Group) Co successfully bred Gobi short-tail sheep, the first new breed of sheep selected and named in this breed.
