Some 55 percent of the high-grade pipeline steel currently being used in the CNPC Tangshan Liquefied Natural Gas Project is being produced by Baogang Group -- located in Baotou city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- according to an April 6 report in the Baotou Daily.
The LNG project, developed by China National Petroleum Corporation, includes engineering for receiving stations, construction of handling facilities and support system engineering outside the landing station, as well as a cold energy utilization system.
Officials said that after the project is completed, it will be connected with the China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline, which can effectively alleviate the problem of natural gas supplies to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, especially to Beijing.
Baogang signed a contract to supply 30,000 tons of X80M pipeline steel for the CNPC Tangshan LNG Project.
Officials said this marked the second time Baogang won a contract to supply a key natural gas project, following the contract signed in December 2019 for more than 20,000 tons of high-grade pipeline steel for the China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline.
The X80M high-strength pipeline steel for the Tangshan LNG project has low temperature resistance and high impact toughness. In addition to its strength, with a performance measured above 550 megapascals, it can be used in extreme cold, with a guaranteed low temperature impact performance.
Established in 1954 and based in Baotou city in Inner Mongolia, Baogang Group is the largest steel company based in the autonomous region.
It is one of the oldest iron and steel manufacturers in China and has a major plant located in the city. It is also the country’s biggest scientific research and production center for rare earth metals.
