Zhaonan Avenue, located in Baotou in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is set to open in August, according to officials at the Baotou urban and rural construction office.
The traffic lanes of the avenue were completed last year. Currently, its internal auxiliary facilities – including the underground pipes corridor, bridge frame, fire protection system, ventilation and other equipment are being installed.
One of Baotou’s key road construction projects, Zhaonan Avenue is 6.7 kilometers in length and cost 890 million yuan ($127 million).
The avenue connects with East Minzu East Road in the north and Hongqi Avenue in the south, with six lanes in both directions.
Officials said the project also included construction of a comprehensive underground pipes gallery. The pipelines entering the gallery include heating pipelines, pipes for reclaimed water, regular water supply pipelines, power pipelines, communications pipelines and gas pipelines.
Officials said the completion of the project will further improve the city's municipal road network, road traffic capacity, Baotou city's north-south regional exchanges, as well as its regional economic growth.
