North China's Baotou makes progress in poverty alleviation

Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has made marked progress in its moves to eliminate poverty, with the incomes of its urban and rural residents steadily growing in recent years, according to local media reports.
Officials said that from 2014 to 2020, the number of impoverished people officially listed by the city decreased from 23,900 to 13 and the incidence of poverty dropped from 2.7 percent to almost zero.
To further strengthen its work in poverty alleviation, Baotou has undertaken new measures in the first half of 2020.
Officials said 96 leading enterprises, cooperatives and poor households in the city have established a close interest linkage mechanism, which has benefited 4,960 poor residents.
They said that this year's employment poverty alleviation goal of finding 714 people jobs has been achieved, with all of them finding employment and employment training sessions have benefited 1,451 people in poverty.

In terms of relocation and poverty alleviation, major relocation tasks have been completed, with 4,191 poor people from 1,913 households moving to new residential areas.
Officials said that elsewhere, the implementation of compensation for returning farmland to forests and public welfare forests benefited 4,981 and 3,202 poor people, respectively, and 160 poor people were employed in forestry management and protection operations throughout the year.
Meanwhile, 448 poor students completed compulsory education without dropping out.
In another important area, as of end-June, 13,330 health files had been established for the poor, with a health documentation level of 100 percent.
Officials said that a total of 4,822 people of Baotou’s registered poor population have been included in the minimum living allowance coverage.
