In recent years, the Saikhantal grassland has been undergoing a series of upgrades and improvements to its environment and landscape -- with a succession of projects undertaken, including water system projects, according to local media reports.
Located in Qingshan district in Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Saikhantal grassland is the only wetland grassland in an urban area in Asia.
Saikhantal means "beautiful grassland" in the Mongolian language.

In 2017, Baotou started to implement the grassland improvement project, demolishing buildings on the 2,860 mu (191 hectares) of land on the grassland's west side to restore the natural landscape.
Officials said that a detailed restoration plan was closely followed and that the grassland landscape has been preserved to the highest possible level, with the environment greatly improved.
Saikhantal grassland's area has increased from 8,479 mu in 2017 to 10,680 mu at present, making the site the largest "prairie in the city" in China.
