Updated: 2020-09-17

Baotou, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has continued to promote services for ethnic minorities, with ethnic minority service centers now established in all of its 87 Sumu (a township administrative district in Inner Mongolia) and sub-districts, according to Baotou Daily.

Every service center is equipped with one or two staff members, responsible for various tasks.

Through the 87 ethnic minority service centers in the city, an annual work subsidy of 1,800 yuan per person has been given to assistants in ethnic minority service work in 814 Gazha (meaning village in the Mongolian language) and communities in the city. The service centers' staff members organize these assistants to participate in various ethnic work training at all levels.

The service centers play an active role in poverty alleviation campaigns targeting ethnic minorities.

The staff members investigate and gather the basic data on poverty among ethnic minorities in the jurisdiction, employment training, and sources of floating populations, and actively provide their services to ethnic minorities.

In recent years, a total of 104 ethnic minority people have been provided with employment skills training; 680 ethnic minority college students have been helped to find employment; and 846 ethnic minority people have been provided with various services such as employment, medical assistance, and legal assistance.

The first week of July is dedicated to the promotion of the Mongolian language legal system in Baotou. April is designated as the month for the publicity of ethnic policies, and September is designated for the promotion of ethnic unity. Themed activities are organized by the service centers.
