Baotou, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been promoting the standardization of agricultural production in order to improve production capacity, ensure the supply of safe and green agricultural products, and increase the incomes of farmers, according to Baotou Daily.
Baotou has formulated technical standards for all aspects of agriculture before, during and after production, standardized operating procedures, improved levels of mechanization, automation, and intelligence, and increased the coverage of standardized production technology in facility agriculture to 77 percent.
In recent years, the city has built standardized planting core areas and demonstration areas, introduced and promoted standardized planting techniques, and promoted the integrated development of agronomy, agricultural machinery, and related facilities.
It has promoted the upgrading of vegetable planting facilities in the city, promoted water-saving agriculture, and increased the supply of high-quality green agricultural products.
With a focus on tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and other varieties of fruits and vegetables, 40 technical regulations for cultivation, planting, harvesting, and initial processing have been formulated, forming a standard local system suitable for Baotou city.
The city also supports leading enterprises, cooperatives and other new types of business entities to apply standardized technology, and has established core demonstration areas to provide subsidies for water and fertilizer integration, operating machinery, organic fertilizers and other materials, with a subsidy amount of some 13 million yuan ($1.98 million).
So far this year, Baotou has invited expert and technical personnel to give more than 10 standardized production training courses, benefiting more than 1,000 farmers.
