Baotou now boasts 2,500 5G base stations

Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has installed a total of 2,500 5G base stations to date, according to local media reports.

The central urban areas and key areas of the city have reportedly now achieved full 5G signal coverage.

The progress in 5G deployment represents the city's commitment to developing technologically advanced infrastructure.

The city has drafted a range of policies – including the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Development of the 5G Industry and Baotou's 5G Network Construction Promotion Work Plan – to achieve full coverage by 5G base stations in the next three years.

The construction of a smart city has also made progress, with the formulation of related work plans, such as the Smart Baotou Promotion Plan 2020-22.

Baotou is also accelerating the establishment of its government information resource sharing platform. At present, the overall system design has been completed and the development of a system module function is in progress.

The development of the digital economy is another top priority for the metropolis.

The Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Digital Economy in Baotou centers on four main themes: information network expansion and upgrading, digital industrialization, industrial digitalization and governance digitalization.

The document further outlines the necessary goals and tasks in order to develop the city's digital economy.
