Five academicians delivered keynote speeches at the first Modern Energy Industry Development Conference, which took place on April 28 in Baotou city, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region,

The conference had as its theme the Energy Revolution under the Goal of Achieving Peak Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality.

The event invited experts and academics from the field, heads of research institutions and leading new energy companies to discuss the development of modern energy.

Du Xiangwan, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said in his speech – entitled Eight Thoughts on Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality – that achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality would not only a turning point in the current energy industrial structure, but would also prove to be one of the most important aspects of energy conservation.

Efficiency, Du noted, was the top consideration of any energy strategy.

Huang Zhen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said in his keynote speech – on Energy Trends Under the Goal of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality – that carbon peaking and carbon neutrality was a national goal.

Social consensus on the necessity for low-carbon transition should be reached as soon as possible, Huang added.

The academician concluded that for various low-carbon and zero-carbon technologies, corresponding market mechanisms and laws and regulations, needed to be established at the same time.
