Updated: 2021-07-07

The city of Baotou in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been taking steps to promote the construction of low-carbon projects, according to Baotou Daily.

Baotou has worked to attract special funds for climate change and low-carbon development, and has established a database of its climate change and low-carbon projects.

So far, a total of 37 projects, with a total investment of 2.6 billion yuan ($402 million), have been included in the database. Seven of these projects have entered the autonomous region's climate change project database, and 7 million yuan of special funds will be issued.

Baotou has fully promoted the participation of key power generation enterprises in the construction of the national carbon market.

It has carried out carbon emission data reporting and verification of key enterprises in the city's steel, power generation, nonferrous metals, and chemical industries, and invited relevant experts from the autonomous region to conduct special training on carbon accounting report compilation and online filing for major enterprises.

The city has actively promoted its carbon capture and utilization projects. After the completion of the projects, the city is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 200,000 metric tons per year.

In addition, the city has hosted training sessions on peak carbon and carbon neutrality, inviting senior experts from Renmin University of China, and National Climate Change Strategy Center to give lectures.
