Baotou posts robust industrial economic growth in 5 months

Baotou city – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – was lifted by robust industrial economic growth in the first five months of 2021, according to the latest official numbers.
The added value of industries above a designated scale in the city gained 20 percent year-on-year during the period, figures released by the city's statistics bureau showed.
The growth rate was reportedly higher than the national and autonomous region's average, ranking Baotou second among the 12 leagues and cities in the autonomous region.
In terms of the categories, the added value of the mining industry increased by 18.0 percent year-on-year, the manufacturing industry increased by 24.7 percent, while the production and supply of electricity, gas and water as a group increased by 6.5 percent on a yearly basis.
In addition, from January to May, the added value of the city's five pillar industries increased by 13.5 percent year-on-year, advancing industrial economic growth by 11.2 percentage points.
Of these, the rare earth industry's added value surged 54 percent, a growth rate easily topping the major industries. The steel, aluminum, equipment manufacturing and power industries grew by 8.9 percent, 23.8 percent, 2.0 percent and 5.5 percent respectively.
During the period, the private economy and the high-tech industry showed rapid growth.
From January to May, the added value of private industries increased by 40.5 percent year-on-year, 20.5 percentage points higher than the city's industrial growth rate above a designated size.
Another star performer was the city's high-tech manufacturing industry, whose added value soared 93.1 percent year-on-year.
