Baotou city reports solid economic performance in 2021

The city of Baotou in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region got strong marks in economic and social achievements in 2021, according to the city's statistics bureau.

Last year, the city's gross domestic product, or GDP, hit 329.3 billion yuan ($51.8 billion), an increase of 8.5 percent over the previous year and an average two-year increase of 5.7 percent based on comparable prices.

During the period, the added value of the primary industry was 11.44 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4 percent. The added value of the secondary industry was 157.12 billion yuan, an increase of 11.7 percent. Meanwhile, the added value of the tertiary industry was 160.74 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4 percent.

The data showed that the city's total grain output in 2021 was 1.15 million metric tons, a gain of 2.3 percent on the previous year and production has been stable at more than 1 million tons for 10 consecutive years.

Throughout the year, the city's added value of industries above a designated size increased by 14.1 percent on the previous year, with an average growth of 12.5 percent in two years.

From January to November, the city's industrial enterprises above a designated size – those businesses with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more – achieved a total profit of 35.07 billion yuan, doubling the figure for the previous year.

The city's fixed asset investment increased by 26.6 percent on the previous year, scoring an average increase of 13.4 percent over the past two years.

Baotou's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 106.11 billion yuan, up 7.4 percent on the previous year.

The per capita disposable income of the residents of Baotou city increased to 49,353 yuan in 2021, representing year-on-year growth of 7.6 percent.
