The spring sowing meeting for soybean and corn ribbon composite planting in Baotou was held in Weijun village, Goumen town.

The promotion and application of soybean and corn strip compound planting technology will help to adjust the local planting system, improve the quality and efficiency of agriculture, and play a positive role in increasing national food security and oilseed security.

Inner Mongolia autonomous region will expand 1.6 million mu (106,667 hectares) of soybean and corn ribbon compound planting this year. Baotou will carry out soybean and corn ribbon compound planting on 370,000 mu of land, 1,200 mu of which will serve as demonstration site for technology integration planting, as required by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

To this end, the village will further promote the upgrading of soybean and corn compound planting technology.

In 2018, Baotou introduced technology developed by Professor Yang Wenyu and his team at Sichuan Agricultural University. In 2021, the yield per mu in the demonstration site in Weijun village reached 800 kilograms of corn and 80 kilograms of soybeans, with the income per mu 300 ($46) to 500 yuan, more than that of conventional green corn.

"The compound planting of soybeans and corn in Baotou is an upgraded version of the technology. It is believed that with the implementation of this technology, agricultural production in Baotou and the autonomous region as a whole will see a significant boost," said Zhang Jianzhong, chief agronomist of the Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Inner Mongolia.
