Port business environment optimized in Baotou

Updated: 2022-05-18

Baotou Customs has overcome the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and continued to optimize the port's business environment this year – helping the Mandula Port open up for trade of imported mineral products.

The whole-process hoisting operation of imported goods has been realized since trial operations for the "distribution-to-collection" cross-border transportation operation model began at the port on Jan 5.

After more than 100 days of customs clearance operation, the daily number of containers hoisted at the port has increased from the initial four to an average of 110 per day, and nearly 300,000 metric tons of mineral products were imported in the first five months.

On May 7, a total of 120 containers filled with minerals imported from Mongolia entered a designated area of the Mandula Port in an orderly manner. More than 4,000 tons of imported coal and iron ore were transported to the port supervision site after hoisting operation.

Baotou Customs officers immediately carried out radioactivity detection, foreign inclusion inspection, laboratory inspection and other work on the imported mineral products. After passing the inspection, the products were sent throughout the country as quickly as possible.

In addition, the customs has been working to develop the "advance appointment + appointment customs clearance + centralized inspection" customs clearance service model, and has adopted measures such as immediate inspection and release of goods in an effort to eliminate delays.

"After a series of customs reforms, the speed of customs clearance for enterprises importing much-needed mineral resources has become faster," said a higher-up at a company that often ships goods through the port.
