Baotou's three-year action plan to peak carbon emissions states that large carbon emitters such as metallurgy, rare earth, and chemical industries should be encouraged to speed up the technological transformation of energy conservation and emission reduction.

With the support of scientific research, the Baotou Rare Earth High-tech Industrial Development Zone has achieved remarkable results in the transformation and upgrading of rare earth and its application industries in recent years.

Inner Mongolia Seagate Environmental Technology Co, located in the zone, is a model of green transformation, as the comprehensive efficiency of the company's 50,000 cubic meter denitration catalyst project has reached an internationally advanced level.

Since the beginning of this year, the zone has integrated high-end scientific research forces in the rare earth industry and actively expanded the "rare earth +" industrial field.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the zone promoted the green, digital and intelligent transformation of rare earth enterprises and implemented the rare earth new material industrial internet project, improving product yield by 5 percent, reducing energy consumption by 10 percent, and increasing indirect economic benefits by 20 percent.

"The company has seized upon opportunities brought about by the green transformation and development of the rare earth industry in Baotou, focusing on improving the utilization rate of production equipment and increasing production capacity by more than 20 percent," said Sun Xiping, head of Beijing Sanjili New Materials Co, which recently set up operations in Baotou.

"Localization of equipment components will be carried out and production capacity will increase from 3,000 metric tons to 8,000 tons," Sun added.
