Baotou city – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has since the start of the year introduced measures to boost rural tourism spending, by creating great new tourism products and brands.
The Tianhe Agriculture-Tourism-Research-Study Complex, for one, has created a research and tourism program for young students, focusing on offering them a rich experience in rural farming.
"Since we held the first rice transplanting festival in Baotou on June 18, more than 800 students have come here every week to study and get experience and together with tour groups, more than 30,000 tourists have been received so far," said Ma Xiaoyu, general manager of the complex.

In economics, a consumption boom stimulates confidence in development. "From the current market feedback, we have introduced a variety of projects such as RV campsites and self-service barbecues on the basis of research and study tours," Ma said.
"Moving forwards, we plan to create leisure products such as rafting, bamboo rafts and a combination of health and wellness products to meet market demand," he added. "In mid-July, when we offer crabbing and fishing facilities for tourists, I believe there will be another round of tourism and a consumption boom".
In addition, the century-old village of Adulai has been revitalized. Diversified and distinctive agricultural tourism experience projects – such as the Huayue Winery and the Jinmei Agricultural Ecological Tourism Base – have made this small village, with a permanent population of less than 200, a big hit with tourists.
