Baotou has been committed to becoming a livable city since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

Beiliang shantytown, once the largest contiguous shantytown in the country, was renovated in 2013. Bungalows were turned into buildings, dilapidated streets and alleys were turned into wide streets and green spaces, and elevators and parks were built.

"It's easy to cook with gas and tap water after renovating," said a resident surnamed Yao, who lives in the shantytown.

Since 2019, Baotou has implemented a total of 429 urban old residential reconstruction projects, 236 of which have been completed and the rest of which are in progress.

In addition, in recent years, Baotou has been implementing urban infrastructure construction and continuously improving the quality of urban functions. During each festival, the city will be decorated with a variety of flowers.
