At the second Gigabit City Summit Forum held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Feb 15, Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was recognized as a "Gigabit City" in China. To date, 110 cities in China have reached the gigabit urban construction standard.
This evaluation means that Baotou has completed the tasks laid out in the "Double Gigabit" Network Collaborative Development Action Plan (2021-2023) issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The "double gigabit" network, represented by gigabit optical network and 5G, plays an important role in stimulating effective investment, promoting new consumption and enabling the digital transformation of industries.
In recent years, the city has issued a series of measures to continuously strengthen the construction of communication infrastructure and support the construction and development of "double gigabit" networks for telecom operators.
At present, all towns and villages in Baotou have achieved full broadband coverage and full mobile network coverage.
Baotou has built a total of 5,253 5G base stations, and the 5G network has achieved strong coverage in areas classified as county-level and above, with a coverage rate of 97.50 percent, and a coverage rate of 95 percent in towns and townships, while urban areas and counties in the city are fully covered by gigabit optical network.
