The Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information of China on Feb 15 released their list of the top 100 most innovative cities in 2022 in China.

The city of Baotou – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – ranked 88th.

The term "innovative city" in this context refers to cities with strong independent innovation capabilities and prominent sci-tech support, and which play a leading role in sustainable economic and social development and have significant influence throughout a region.

By the end of 2022, the Ministry of Science and Technology had supported 103 cities in becoming national innovative cities, helping to make the country more innovative.
