Baotou institute produces high-purity rare earth material

Updated: 2023-02-23

The Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute – located in Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – now can produce high-purity rare earth metal ytterbium materials, with excellent results.

The material is widely used in mobile phones, TVs and in other products. It is used to realize screen folding functionality, but also has the advantages of reducing energy consumption and improving screen resolution, which is very popular in the market.

It is forecast to generate sales of over 10 million yuan ($1.45 million) per year for the institute and annual profits of more than 3 million yuan.

The Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute in recent years has solved the sci-tech problems of the rare earth industry. It has promoted the transformation of sci-tech research achievements – from laboratory research to industrial production – enabling the application of rare earth products in more fields.

In 2013, the institute built the first "pilot test base of new rare earth materials," focusing on solving the problems in the transformation of sci-tech achievements.

To date, it has established four pilot production lines for high-purity target rare earth metals, rare earth alloy materials, PVC rare earth composite stabilizers and magnetic rare earth materials.

It has become the largest, technologically advanced and open rare earth pilot test platform in the country and many sci-tech achievements and products have reached advanced international levels.
