Baotou was featured in the "Ecology Deer City" episode of the ongoing 31-part series Exploring the Yellow River on CCTV-4.
With 88.5 percent of days experiencing good air and an annual air quality composite index of 3.88, a healthy environment has become a symbol of Baotou.
In recent years, Baotou has made every effort to build a green ecology protection belt and continued to implement national key projects covering 755,500 mu (50,367 hectares) related to natural forest protection, Beijing-Tianjin sandstorm source control, and returning farmland to forest.
A total of 21.22 square kilometers of mining environments have been restored in the city through the implementation of a number of environmental treatment projects, including the treatment of abandoned mine pits and ecological restoration in coal-field fire areas.
In 2017 and 2020, Shiguai district in Baotou was awarded national pilot projects for the comprehensive treatment of coal mining subsidence areas.
According to Liu Wei, deputy director of the district's natural resources bureau office, 84.5 million yuan ($12.31 million) will be invested this year to implement afforestation projects covering a total area of 65,000 mu.
This will further improve the bearing capacity of the soil environment, increase vegetation coverage and reduce soil and water loss in Shiguai.
