In the first quarter of 2023, the general public budget revenue of Baotou was 4.9 billion yuan ($712.5 million), an increase of 280 million yuan with six percent.

Tax revenue reached 3.94 billion yuan, up 28.2 percent year on year, while fiscal expenditure remained relatively high.

Expenditures in the general public budget totaled 9.76 billion yuan, an increase of 1.85 billion yuan, or 23.4 percent, over the previous year.

The city has strongly supported expenditure in key areas such as people's livelihood, scientific and technological research, social security, health and rural vitalization.

This includes a 15-percent increase in spending in basic living standards, a 562.5-percent increase in science and technology, a 28.4-percent increase in social security and employment, and a 26.5-percent increase in health.
