Baotou to link silicon industrial chain and cluster
Baotou has recently accelerated the layout of its silicon industrial cluster by focusing on photovoltaic silicon, which has become a key component driving the city's economic development.
The city aims to build a diversified silicon industry with a cluster of enterprises producing photovoltaic silicon at its core. These are supported by two other industrial clusters, namely semiconductors and organic silicon.
To meet this goal, Baotou has gathered many leading enterprises in the polysilicon industry such as Tongwei Group, Daqo Group, and Risen Co. It has now emerged as the city with the largest polysilicon production capacity in China, accounting for about one quarter of the nation's production capacity. Baotou is expected to comprise more than half of the country's production capacity by 2025.
In the monocrystalline silicon industry, Shuangliang Group, JA Solar Co, Canadian Solar Group and other leading enterprises have gathered in the city. At present, the production capacity of monocrystalline silicon in Baotou ranks first in China, accounting for about one-third of the national total. It is expected to make up over half by 2025.
Baotou also has significant market share in niche industries like batteries and components. Crucibles, crystal growth furnaces, and other cogs supporting the silicon industry have either been put into production, are under construction, or are set to break ground in the wake of signed agreements in Baotou.
In addition, Baotou has accelerated the layout of its electronic silicon, organic silicon and industrial silicon industries, promoting the development of an even more robust industrial cluster.
