Baotou, renowned for its steadfast commitment to environmental preservation, commenced its 42nd "Bird-Loving Week" on May 13, with an ardent aim to disseminate bird conservation awareness among local residents.
This year's event centers on the pivotal idea of "protecting migration routes for migratory birds and propelling the advancement of ecological civilization construction."
The event venue showcased an array of bird specimens and captivating picture display boards, effectively curated by zealous volunteers from Baotou Teachers' College. These dedicated individuals seized the opportunity to enlighten the public about the safeguarding measures implemented within the city's expansive forested wetlands and grasslands, in addition to providing insights into the migratory birds.
Engaging the residents further, the organizers facilitated an interactive workshop where attendees learned how to repurpose discarded beverage bottles into functional bird feeders, showcasing the potential for recycling to contribute to the welfare of our feathered friends.
Moreover, an enthralling bird drawing activity was organized, inviting both children and their parents to partake in collaborative doodling sessions, allowing them to express their creativity through vivid representations of birds and their nests.
Zhang Zhuohan, a student of Baotou Teachers' College Experimental Primary School, is a wildlife protection volunteer. "Birds are good friends of human beings," she said. "It is our duty to love birds and protect them," she added.
In recent years, Baotou has demonstrated unwavering commitment to fortifying ecological conservation and executing measures for wetland preservation and restoration. As a testament to their resolute efforts, the city's biodiversity continues to flourish, exhibiting tangible growth with each passing day.
At present, Baotou proudly hosts a diverse avian population, encompassing an impressive total of 250 wild bird species. Within this remarkable assemblage, there are 17 species that have been accorded the esteemed status of national first-class protected animals, alongside an additional 43 species that hold the distinction of national second-class protected status.
