The China Horse Industry Association officially awarded the title of "China Horse City" to Baotou on Sept 19. The new designation is attributed to Baotou's rich equestrian culture, and its historical prominence as the largest horse-trading center in Northwest China during the 17th century.
Now, Baotou's horse-related industries are flourishing, encompassing horse breeding, equestrian events, and cultural tourism. Additionally, the city's equine serum industry is experiencing robust growth, providing a vital resource for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, including scientific research.
Various horse-themed events such as equestrian series competitions and endurance races have been continually organized, igniting the enthusiasm of local residents and visitors while promoting equestrian sports in general.
This year, the city meticulously planned 100 equestrian series events with the participation of over 80,000 people.
Furthermore, by relying on local equestrian culture bases, equestrian-themed museums, and sightseeing accommodations on its vast grasslands, Baotou has been expanding its leisure tourism offerings, providing an array of fresh experiences for residents and tourists.
"Along the route, there's the Yellow River and the wetlands, making horseback riding here quite delightful," said Li Xin, a local resident who rides horses at the Lianbang Equestrian Club in Baotou.
