Northern Weapon City named national tourism base
Northern Heavy Industries Industrial Tourism Zone in Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been selected as a National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Base.
This is based on a recent announcement from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism titled "Notice on Launching Beijing's 798 Art Zone and other 69 National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Bases."
The zone (also known as the Northern Weapon City Scenic Area) spans 117,000 square meters and exhibits over 40 representative weapons. It is a National 4A-level scenic area that integrates education about defense, science, and patriotism, as well as offering exhibitions of weapons, military culture, and leisure and entertainment.
One of its most representative features includes the first independently developed anti-aircraft gun, missile and jet fighter by the People's Republic of China. It also boasts the largest caliber cannon in Asia, as well as the earliest steam locomotive in China.
The scenic area has received various accolades, including being billed as a National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site, a Military Culture Education Base of National Defense Sci-tech Industry, a National Science Education Base, and an Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Youth Education Base. It is also a key cultural heritage protection unit in Inner Mongolia.
