Baotou saves energy by transforming lamps
Since this year, Baotou city has initiated the LED energy-saving transformation of 3,857 high-pressure sodium lamps on roads such as National Highway 210, Minzu East Road, and Kexue Road.
By 2025, the city's urban lighting facilities are expected to achieve an energy-saving rate of over 50 percent.
This transformation has adopted energy-saving technological achievements independently developed by the municipal center. It has replaced outdated high-pressure sodium lamp sources with high-brightness, high-color rendering index, and low-energy-consuming LED sources without altering the original lamp design. Additionally, it has integrated intelligent control modules with adjustable power, realizing the smart transformation of LED lighting.
For instance, replacing 400-watt high-pressure sodium lamps with 180W LED fixtures results in an annual reduction of 803 kilowatt-hours per lamp, saving electricity costs by 385 yuan ($54) and reducing coal consumption by 0.08 metric tons. Similarly, replacing 250W high-pressure sodium lamps with 120W LED fixtures leads to an annual reduction of 474 kWh per lamp, saving electricity costs by 228 yuan and decreasing coal consumption by 0.05 tons.
Currently, Baotou has a total of 16,366 high-energy-consuming sodium lamps. Apart from the 3,857 lamps that have undergone LED energy-saving transformation, the municipal center is actively supporting various districts in undertaking LED lighting energy-saving transformations, and is anticipating to yield an annual electricity cost reduction of 10 million yuan.
