Ice, snow Nadam in Baotou boosts festive atmosphere

A new year's ice and snow Nadam and a horse racing competition grandly kicked off in Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner, Baotou city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Dec 30, 2023.
As an essential part of the Nadam, archery, horse racing, and wrestling competitions were organized to promote traditional sports and unity.

Photography enthusiast, Mr Wang, arrived early at the scene to capture galloping horses with his lens. He said, "Although the weather is cold, I don't want to miss the opportunity to record Nadam culture with my camera."
To fully showcase the rich and colorful winter tourism culture of Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner, this ice and snow Nadam also includes seven major sports events, seven culture and tourism activities, as well as four trade activities. These events have attracted visitors from different cities and regions.
In addition to traditional events, activities such as intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, square dance performances, concerts, and fireworks shows are also included. These exciting activities and competitions will continue until Feb 28 this year.

Sun Wenting, who lives in Qingshan district of Baotou, attended Nadam for the first time. "The on-site activities are very diverse, and this ice and snow Nadam is quite a novel experience," she said.
