Baotou to elevate silicon industry
This year, Baotou city plans to elevate its green crystalline silicon industry.
By the end of 2024, the city's focus will be on implementing 45 photovoltaic industry projects. Its goal is to achieve increased capacities in polycrystalline silicon, monocrystalline silicon, wafer slicing, battery cells, and modules.
The city will also enhance the supporting industrial chain for crystalline silicon photovoltaics. Currently, efforts are being accelerated to advance the construction progress of the Solglass project, aiming for the project to commence operations by the end of next year.
Baotou also plans to further leverage the advantages of the "Zhejiang University - Baotou Silicon Material Joint Research Center" and Silicon Industry College at Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology. These advantages included scientific research and talent training in the field of silicon materials. Key technological breakthroughs will also be pursued, particularly in iterative technologies such as thin-film batteries.
Furthermore, Baotou will drive enterprises and research institutions to enhance their research capabilities and intensify efforts in the development of new products and technologies. The city will also push forward and work together with Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology and 13 leading silicon industry enterprises to establish the Baotou Silicon Industry Research Institute. The city also plans to expedite construction on the Inner Mongolia Photovoltaic (Silicon Material) Industry Metrology Testing Center.
