Baotou boosts consumption market

Updated: 2024-04-23

The consumer vouchers distributed by the Baotou municipal people's government have proved popular among residents. Since the beginning of this year, the government has been distributing the vouchers every Thursday morning at 11 am on its WeChat account.

"Every Thursday at 11 am, I log in to the Baotou finance bureau's WeChat account to claim consumer vouchers. It feels like a great deal," said 50-year-old resident Zhang Xiaomei. She added that using the vouchers helps to reduce expenses when dining out, refueling, grocery shopping, and taking public transportation.

Baotou plans to distribute consumer vouchers worth more than 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) this year. As of the end of March, a total of 192,200 vouchers have been distributed, with a total value of 3.9 million yuan. The vouchers can be used in various locations and for various products, including department stores, supermarkets, restaurants, home appliances, and urban public transportation.

For instance, residents can receive a 20-yuan discount when spending over 200 yuan to refuel their vehicles, a 10-yuan discount when spending over 50 yuan in restaurants, a 50-yuan discount when purchasing electronics and digital products worth over 500 yuan, and a 10-yuan discount when spending over 100 yuan at department stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores.

"The distribution of consumer vouchers has boosted consumption. The flow of people in our store has increased, and so has our sales volume," said Lan Xiaoguang, assistant to the chairman of Baotou Tongli Electronics Co.

"Through the distribution of consumer vouchers, we encourage residents to spend at shopping malls, restaurants, and other places, which has effectively revitalized the physical consumption market and promoted the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods," said Guo Jianping, director of the economic and trade section of the Baotou finance bureau.

Next, the bureau will issue targeted consumer vouchers to promote the purchase of household appliances and other consumer goods in exchange for old items.
