Updated: 2024-04-25

In recent years, Donghe district of Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been continuously promoting the modernization and transformation of its agriculture and rural areas, effectively helping local farmers to increase both yield and income.

Previously, Yongfu village in the district had been mainly focused on developing greenhouse agriculture. However, since this year, the village has implemented a demonstration project for greenhouse land-based green aquaculture, opening up a new model for fish farming.

The project covers an aquaculture area of 3 mu (0.2 hectares) and breeds multiple species such as sturgeon and grass carp, bringing an annual economic income of 150,000 yuan ($20,787) to the village collective.

In recent years, Donghe district has promoted the cultivation of fruit and vegetable varieties that are suitable for local conditions and have good market prospects. Among them, Shamujia village has introduced and promoted 60 new grape varieties, directly driving more than 150 households in the local and surrounding areas to plant new varieties on 1,000 mu of land.

In addition, Donghe district has the largest cherry picking experience garden in Inner Mongolia, with more than 1,400 cherry trees planted. The garden has also cooperated with the Cherry Research Institute of Shandong Province to trial plant more than 10,000 young trees in North China. Cherry planting is gradually becoming more popular, and this yield is set to be exported to Shanghai, Beijing, and other places.
