Baotou engages young minds with hands-on science outreach
To celebrate the upcoming eighth "National Science and Technology Workers Day" and to promote science among the public, Baotou recently invited scientists to conduct a series of science popularization activities.
"Have you ever seen fossils from 400 million years ago?" Under the guidance of Wang Wenli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a paleontologist, sixth-grade students from Niuqiaojie Primary School in Baotou were able to for the first time.
At the beginning of the lecture, Wang took out a trilobite fossil from 400 million years ago, a dinosaur leg bone fossil from tens of millions of years ago, as well as some plant and mosquito fossils, inviting students to observe them.
"I've never seen scientific models like these before." "The lecture helped me understand that graphene is a very precious material." "We usually have science classes, but this is the first time we've approached science in such an interesting way," students said after participating in the science popularization activities.
Next, Baotou plans to build community science museums in densely populated neighborhoods to provide science popularization services.
